Torture Complaint

Legal Memorandum (Court File)

In 2015 police officers searched 204 prisoners using physical and psychological violence. This assault injured even an elder and a wheelchair user. For years authorities filed national complaints against those acts of crime. But no measures were able to guarantee the victims' right of access to justice. That led the Public Defender’s Office to partner with Vitta (formerly Villa) for this project, designing a complaint that could clearly demonstrate the facts and arguments of the case. With this 2023 memo, for the 1st time in history, the UN accepted a complaint against Brazil for torture and adopted measures to remedy further violences.
