Narai-juku is designated as an Important Preservation District for Japanese Traditional Buildings and has a beautiful townscape. The main building of the former Sugi no Mori Sake Brewery (Toshiyoshiya), which was the center of Narai-juku, and a sake brewery where sake was once made, were rebuilt as an inn, restaurant, hot spring bath, and sake brewery. The contrast of spaces emphasizes the conflicting needs for renovation: preservation as an important traditional building and assurance of safety under the current law, and the aim is to create a facility that will lead to the future of the town.
