Trash Talk

Editorial design

Shu-Te University

Trash talking is meanwhile a special subculture and language in modern Taiwanese speech and slang. It is meanwhile common in contemporary Taiwan for people to use exaggerated trash talk in various social settings and relationships, whether religious or political, at work or at home. Trash talk can be selfish or even used to deceive others. It is indirect and ironic, unlike more traditional registers of speech. The "Trash Talk" booklet presents three themes on the subject, using funny, ironic trash-talk phrases, word combinations and illustrations. The purpose and message is to emphasize how communication in modern Taiwan is often full of contradictions.
