Tuli – Engaging People with Advanced Dementia

Textile Product

Tuli is a set of soft, textile objects that ease anxiety and agitation in people with advanced dementia. It stimulates the senses and engages the user in simple activities. The objects contain an insert filled with buckwheat husk, which gives a pleasant weight and can be heated to strengthen the feeling of warmth. Two forms complement each other; one gives a feeling of envelopment and stability, and the other encourages active hugging and stroking. It makes it easier to get in touch "here and now" with people with advanced dementia. It has a positive impact on the quality of life of both patients and the people in their environment.

JURY STATEMENT

"Tuli is a distinctly human and very simple concept to aid communication with dementia patients. It enables a dignified form of interaction, in which therapy and care are combined."

WINNER STATEMENT

The award is a significant distinction for my work. I am glad that the empathetic project dedicated to such a vulnerable group of society was noticed by the jury. It gives me great motivation for further projects.
