Walkman

SONY Corporation

The Walkman A Series has been developed as a playback device offering new ways of enjoying music. To create the feeling of flowing sound and air, the designer used unbroken curved lines, avoiding angles and straight lines, creating a shape that seems to gently wrap around the music. Providing a good physical sensation with every touch or use, this device can be easily held in the palm of the hand, and its design avoids getting in the way of listening to the music. With the side band kept in the center and sandwiched between the upper and lower parts, there are no joints, and the design is very pleasing viewed from any angle. To create smooth lines, the screw which is exposed in one place only, has been given the added function of a neck strap clip to enhance the product’s appearance. Using a large-size organic EL display for the screen results in a design where text and a menu seem to come from inside the display when the power is switched on.
