WATT
Sidewalk for electricity
What if we could produce electricity by ourselves? We create free energy every day by walking, which is our kinetic energy. What if we could convert this energy into usable electricity? New York City has the highest pedestrian traffic rate in the world. Imagine 8.5 million New Yorkers walking for electricity. WATT is a system that absorbs pedestrians' kinetic energy, which then converts absorbed energy into usable electricity. By installing piezoelectric sensors under floors or surfaces where they have contact with pedestrians' feet, electricity could be collected and used for any object or system that requires an electric energy source.
An interesting concept, very well presented.I doubt whether it really provides enough energy, but it definitely works as an instrument to raise awareness.
WINNER STATEMENTWe are sincerely grateful to the iF DESIGN TALENT AWARD for recognizing our passionate work. We can't wait to see the day when no one gets charged for electricity.
