Wikipedia celebrated its 10th anniversary in 2011. Since starting in 2001 the website became the biggest encyclopedia on the planet and all of us use it and take it for granted almost every day. It’s still free of charge and advertising – and all the work is done by thousands of volunteers. So 2011 was the year Wikipedia went public with a classical campaign, for the first time. A series of bold headlines called for respect and communicated how the website changed the world. In addition to that, every motive announced Wikipedia’s application for becoming the first ever digital world heritage site of the UNESCO.
