Winery Meyer-Näkel
Beverage packaging
Weinhaus Werner Näkel GmbH
Since the end of Apartheid, the Meyer-Näkel winery from Germany's Ahr-region has been successfully producing red wines in South Africa. In keeping with their basic German red wine brand “Us De La Meng”, which roughly translated means “shaken from the wrist”, the South African line, a Chardonnay and a Shiraz, bear the name “Us De Kap”. The rebranding involves various elements reminiscent of South Africa, such as the handmade typography and an emblem adapted from the South African national coat of arms. In addition to the label design, a specially designed newspaper serves as packaging. It relates the story of how the Meyer-Näkel family’s South African wines came to be.
