Menlo Systems, a spin-off from the Max Planck Institute of Quantum Optics, has commissioned an online application for their optical frequency comb. The purpose of this application is to demonstrate the vast possibilities of this instrument, which the inventor received the Nobel Prize in Physics for. Therefore an interactive 3D globe – the MenloMap – has been designed, which allows the user to visit world-renowned institutes of the most various scientific disciplines. In the course of this, the user learns all about how the frequency comb is being applied. Connecting lines symbolize the interconnectedness of the individual sections.
