Portable Bathtub

INTENDED FOR WATER, CUT WITH WATER, FORMED BY WATER! XTEND redefines the traditional bathtub: made of carbon fiber, cut with a high-pressure water jet, combining design, functionality and comfort. When folded, the 7 kg light, 8.5mm thin, space-saving flat product lends itself to mobile use. When filled with water, the structure reveals an example of craftsmanship and digital manufacturing. The soft-padded, machine-washable fabric inlay provides a new bathing experience. XTEND unfolds itself into a design object.

JURY STATEMENT

This is a clever design concept that appears to be well thought through and functionally well resolved. Although the comfort might be somewhat questionable, the innovative use of materials and manufacturing processes is particularly commendable. The design is contemporary in form and finish, is aesthetically pleasing and has been presented clearly and professionally.

WINNER STATEMENT

XTEND started out as an experiment to see how the bathtub, as we all know it, can be redesigned. I am glad that my experiment worked out as it did and I am even gladder that this is being recognized with an iF STUDENT DESIGN AWARD 2016.
