Forests for Sustainable Development
Programme
Farm Africa is dedicated to reducing poverty and hunger in rural Africa by helping farmers grow more, sell more, and sustain natural resources. Our mission is to build resilience, unlock the potential of agriculture, and sustainably manage natural resources. Our participatory forest management scheme in Ethiopia’s Bale Eco-region has significantly reduced deforestation and increased local incomes, preserving over 25,000 hectares of forest and preventing 10.5 million tonnes of CO2 emissions, whilst boosting income for local smallholder farmers and building the region's resilience to climate shocks.
Forests for Sustainable Development that has established a system with set of very well considered interventions that lead to measurable results on every level.
WINNER STATEMENTFarm Africa is thrilled to receive this prestigious prize for the Forests for Sustainable Development Programme in Oromia, Ethiopia, which works to cut deforestation and carbon emissions, and increase the incomes of forest-dependent communities. The funding will support rural women living in poverty to develop sustainable livelihoods rearing goats.
