Duality

Reactive spatial installation

Passersby trigger the reactive installation that interplays between solid and liquid, virtual and real, light and water: their footsteps generate virtual waves that transform to real water waves in the pond. Located outside an office building complex/subway station in central Tokyo, this art installation is intended to evoke stronger identification of the commuters with the place. The original concept was inspired by the dual nature of light, the "Wave-Particle Duality", but through the development process, the immediate playfulness and questioning the role of media technologies in public space became important to the final realization, also.
