Prof. Ernesto Gismondi
Artemide S.p.A.Milano, ItalyErnesto Gismondi was born in San Remo in 1931. He studied aircraft construction in Milan and missile technology in Rome. in 1959, he and reputed designer Sergio Mazza founded Artemide SpA. The company, of which Gismondi is president and chief executive, is active in the area of light design. Between1959 and 1964, Gismondi was assistant at the mechanical engineering faculty of the polytechnic university in Milan. Simultaneously, he acted as vice president of the Association of Industrial Design which is headquartered in Milan. He began to transfer special plastic manufacturing technologies to the area of furniture design. As of 1970, the began to develop luminaires for Artemide, earning increasing recognition and making himself a name as an international designer. in 1981, he instigated Memphis, an avant-garde design movement. from 1964 to 1984, he took on large number of lecturing appointments around the world. He also sits on various management boards and advisory bodies from industry, business and science.
