Ingo Maurer

Ingo Maurer GmbH Germany

Lighting designer and artist Ingo Maurer was born on the island of Reichenau, Lake Constance. He trained as a typographer in Germany and Switzerland. From 1954 to 1958, he studied graphic design. In 1960, he emigrated to the United States and worked as a freelance designer in New York and San Francisco. His Ingo Maurer GmbH has been an owner-managed company of more than 50 years for the development and production of exceptional design lamps. His best known designs include Bulb (1966), the low-voltage system YaYaHo (1984) and the Lucellino wing lamp (1992). The subway stations "Westfriedhof" (1998) and "Münchner Freiheit" (2009) in Munich and the pendulum "Flying to Peace" for Messe Frankfurt (2018) are just a few highlights on the long list of commissioned and spectacular individual pieces for private customers and public buildings. Ingo has received a number of prestigious design awards and is exhibited in showrooms all over the world. In October 2019 he passed away in his hometown Munich, aged 87.
