Niels Gammelgaard

Niels Gammelgaard Design ApSCopenhagen, Denmark

Niels Gammelgaard was born in 1944 in Copenhagen. He studied industrial design at the Royal Academy of Art of Copenhagen, graduating in 1970. as of 1969 joint owner of BOX 25 architects. As of 1975 associated with Ikea, for whom he has created numerous award-winning products with a high design profile. From 1994-1998 head of Design Studio Copenhagen. From 1978 joint owner of Pelikan Design. Won the ID-prize 1980 for Rabo playingtools on wheel. Design furniture for Fritz Hansen A/S (iD-prize 1996, Rote Punkt für hohe Designqualität 1996 and Upholstered Furniture Design Award Europa 1993), Bent Krogh A/S, (Scan Prisen 1984), Frederica Furniture A/S, Erik Jørgensen A/S, Tranekaær Furniture und DUBA A/S, and for the work with Danish Furniture factories assigned in the Furniture Prize 1993. Gammelgaard has also worked for renowned companies in Norway, Finland, Sweden, Italy, the Far East, Brazil and Portugal. From 1984-87 he war part owner of Penta Design where he designed the electronic pay desks for the Danish Post Office. He has won numerous prestigious awards.
