Cera-Metal

orthopedic implant coating

Ceramic components are also used in endoprosthetics as wear-steady sliding partners, limit however the possibilities of shaping and construction due to the manufacturing process and the brittle material properties. Cera-Metal opens completely new design possibilities for joint implants, since this layer can be applied on practically all geometries. Cera-Metal (Vickers hardness approx. 700HV, thickness about 0.5mm) is a mixture from ceramic metallic oxides and glass ceramics. It is applied in a electrophoresis procedure on a metallic base from an CoCrMo alloy and fixed by a heating process. No further finishing process is necessary. Cera-Metal stands for a long-term function as a sliding partner against polyethylene or Cera-Metal itself, without any danger of brittle failures especially in thin-walled implant components.
