Das Rote Tuch Buch

Book/experiment

In this book haptic objects are rendered two-dimensional and the resulting plain surfaces give the illusion of being haptic. Scans of hand-made embroidery, fabric, thread, lace and other materials are combined with digital photographs in the creation of collages through which a not-immediately-obvious story is told. But a red thread runs, quite literally, throughout the book: the pursuit of happiness and the dreams people strive to realise – mostly as a result of indoctrination by the media and advertising. One of those dreams is the vacation trip. Vacations, at least as they are advertised by the media, epitomise the many empty promises of our society. Alongside the forlorn hunt for short-term luck the book chooses our hidden anxieties, illustrated as red rags, as its main theme.
