Use of Empty and Hard to build on Plots in Cities
The question here was how to locate a cemetery in a crowded city. The solution: take advantage of any urban spaces that are unsuitable for building and living. At its core, this concept is about product design. The cemetery itself need not occupy a large area since many urns can be placed in close proximity. Then there’s the potential for dual usage, combining the cemetery with residential, agricultural, or industrial uses. Recyclable materials such as plastics, concrete, and clay could be utilized, or perhaps a new building material could be created by mixing in the ashes of the deceased.
A beautiful and intriguing approach to integrating cemeteries into urban areas, this concept revitalizes unused spaces with a thoughtful design, using sustainable materials and an innovative open structure.
WINNER STATEMENTWhat a pleasant surprise to be selected as a winner of the iF DESIGN STUDENT AWARD! Throughout the process, I kept in mind the sensitivity of the topic, questioning if the solution would be socially acceptable when viewed through ethical, moral, and cultural lenses. Hence, this positive feedback feels very rewarding.
