EPIC Bamboo Home
Modernising Bamboo houses for indigenous community
The EPIC Bamboo Home (EBH) is a modular, rapidly deployable housing system that modernises indigenous bamboo knowledge. It enables non-experts to build durable bamboo homes in just three days, solving housing issues such as unsafe or overcrowding living conditions that 12,000 indigenous families (Orang Asli) in Peninsular Malaysia face. Unlike traditional housing aid, EBH focuses on community agency and cross-cultural collaboration between the Orang Asli community and urban volunteers by turning construction into a platform for social capital, environmental benefits, and long-term livelihood opportunities.
The Project goes beyond using bamboo as an eco buidling materials,It embraces the entire life cycle-from sourcing and construction to use ,culture and circularity- redefining the relationship between architect, nature, communities and resources through sustainable design.
