4 typographic posters

Central St. Martins College of Art & Design School of Graphic & Industrial Design, MA Communication Design

Personal space is the space immediately around you, which you claim as your own. It can be defined as an area with invisible boundaries surrounding each individual, into which intruders may not come (Robert Sommer). This study explores the relationship between personal space and distances. It is an experimental typographic project, representing what may happen when personal space is altered. Moreover, it investigates the four types of distance zones identified by Edward T. Hall (1959): intimate, personal, social and public distance. Each of these zones is explored by a set of typographic posters that can only be read from a particular distance. If a person moves towards the poster the legibility of the text will increase or decrease according to his or her shifts of movement.
