Golfbarren – „25 000 000 Golf“

Book, magnifying glass, slipcase

Volkswagen Aktiengesellschaft – Historische Kommunikation

The “Golf” is synonymous with the name of Volkswagen and, with production to date running at 25 million, also embodies its heart of gold. To celebrate this special anniversary, the publisher and designer created a play on the words “Golf” and “gold” in the shape of a “Golf bar”. A communication medium with the requisite measure of understatement was devised in honor of a vehicle which has given its name to a whole class of cars and become a worldwide success since it was launched in 1974. The result is not the traditional glossy book about cars, but the striking “Golf bar” which brings home the dimensions of this production achievement and invites the reader to take a closer look with the help of the “Golf seeker”, a magnifying glass enclosed in the book’s slipcase. A gold printed “Golf stream” of all 25 million GOLFs wends its way across 288 double pages which also feature further informative texts about the “multi-generation car” and glorious golden chapters with striking photos and graphics. The Golf, itself an automotive design edition, has found its bibliophilic counterpart – and both represent a miracle of technology and elegant design.
