Suspended monorail system

stephan gahlow produktgestaltung

This vehicle study for public transport of the future makes the benefits of the driverless, computer-controlled, suspended monorail system tangible: all-glass sides and front provide the passenger with a unique view. Large surfaces and light colours are predominant in the passenger section. To achieve this level of generosity the automotive engineering was integrated in the roof, floor and standing aids. The full-surround aluminium cabin frame is also visible from the inside. All passenger holding and support systems are integrated on this frame. From the outside the metal frame manifests the stabile connection between the cabin body and the rail. The clear-cut over-all shape does without aerodynamic elements. Tranquil smooth gliding takes over from the hectic of dynamics. Photos: Bent Szameitat (model), Oliver Heissner (architecture). Model construction: Bernhard Nitschke.
