LEARNING SCAPES

School interior

New forms of teaching demand new spatial structures. At the St.Johann primary school in Basel, the corridors were transformed into a diverse learning and recreation zone. The project took a collaborative approach, asking teachers and pupils for their ideas and wishes for the redesign. Working, reading and resting areas were connected to a variety of play elements with the aim of supporting active learning. Spacious coat racks serve as lockers and separate the staircases from the corridor interiors. The result is a pioneering project that transformed the historical school building into an innovative learning space.
