MIRAI CONVENIENCE STORE

Convenience store and café

Kito Design Holdings intended to revitalize the tiny village of Kito, home to some 1,000 inhabitants. The Mirai convenience store was built as a community hub for the project. The name Mirai (Japanese for future) reflects the hope that this facility will serve as a place where children can grow and learn. The structure features a forest of yellow, Y-shaped steel frames that evokes the image of a citrus orchard, as Kito was the first place in Japan where the successful grafting of yuzu citrus trees was conducted. With the participation of villagers, the three-dimensional truss structure was painted a yuzu yellow. The theme gives the community identity and connects the past with the promise of a future.
