MODU: A Story-Based Empathy Expression Training Game

Educational game for children with intellectual disabilities

ID KAIST

Children with mild intellectual disability (MID) and borderline intellectual functioning (BIF) have problems maintaining adequate social behavior. They seem no different from other children as preschoolers. However, from school age, they begin to have problems with social skills, which makes the training of emotion recognition and empathy responses very important. Educational games exist to help children with disabilities learn social skills, but little has been done for children with MID and BIF. The story-based serious game MODU was developed to address this gap and support emotion recognition and empathy behavior training in children with MID and BIF.
