PAL - Phase Alternating Line

Book with LP cover

PAL is a club for analog techno music in Hamburg, located in the basement of the city's iconic television tower. PAL stands for Phase Alternating Line, a transmission technology previously used in analog televisions. The TV analogy runs through all elements of the design, for example in the iconographic interference signals, and a digital style that imitates classic teletext. The book renders this concept in three ways: the playable vinyl cover, the interference image of analog television, and the horizontal shifts as graphic translations.

iF Gold Statement

Why not add an LP record to a book about an all-analog techno club in Hamburg? This publication celebrates old school design and of course music. PAL is a multi-sensual experience and a bold statement against the digital insanity of our current times.
