“Universum der Ozeane” (Ocean Worlds) is an online experience developed for “zdf.de” complementing the three part documentary feature hosted by Frank Schätzing on ZDF’s TerraX. The game allows the visitor to explore the oceans in a dive robot and five different animal avatars. The scenario has been inspired by the “Census of Marine Life” where animal-mounted instrumentation played an important role in understanding formerly unknown behavior. The application is built in Unity and linked to a content management system. With magenta cyan glasses the game can be viewed in 3D. The application illustrates dependencies in a complex ecosystem such as the oceans.
