Wako Main Building Show Window “3.11”

Window display

The main building of Wako in Ginza, Tokyo, rings the Westminster-style chime every hour, and together with the building, it is a landmark of Ginza that is well known by people. At 14:46 on March 11, 2011, the Great East Japan Earthquake struck. The main building of Wako has been ringing a mournful bell at that time every year since 2012. In 2021, the 10th year of the event, a newly composed "Bell of Hope for the Future" will be rung. For five days prior to the event, a clock that stopped at 14:46 was placed in the show window. As soon as the "Bell of Hope for the Future" began to ring, the hands of light began to tick a new time.
