What the Children Drew Art from Gaza and Tokyo

Picture Book

This picture book was born from an event in the author’s own town. Children drew with more honesty and urgency than photos or social media, and distant children responded with their own free lines. Seen through the author’s eyes, these became a “dialogue through art” and a work of documentary fiction. It is not merely a picture book, but a design for dialogue across borders. A single free line awakens empathy and invites each viewer to dialogue with their own inner voice. The project shows a cycle—from event to picture book, and back to event again—revealing a new way to connect society and the individual.

iF Gold Statement

This deeply moving book looks at conflict through the eyes of children. In a world saturated with crisis imagery, its quiet, human format feels radical. Through a visual dialogue between children across cultures, this book breaks through the fatigue that pervades a public space saturated with images and reports of war. Its power emerges from the honesty and directness of a child’s emotions.
