Blue Garden

Food of the future

Today’s food production is not sustainable. We urgently need a more low-carbon, resilient, and restorative food production model. One solution is seaweed farming. The main obstacle to the more widespread adoption of seaweed as a food source is a lack of knowledge about seaweed, most people’s unfamiliarity with eating it, and the difficulty of harvesting it. Blue Garden is a scalable service that supports seaweed farmers, thus helping to reduce our climate impact and restore ecosystems. Using a mobile application, a try-out kit, and a Harvest Box, it provides inspiration, support, and knowledge.

JURY STATEMENT

We need transformative design combined with living-systems thinking. This project goes beyond sustainability, guiding the way to a new regenerative culture, proposing a healthy, restorative, and resilient food production model based on marine permaculture.

WINNER STATEMENT

I’m very honored to receive this iF DESIGN TALENT AWARD! It means a lot as the project has great importance for me. My first food experience with Swedish kelp was in 2020, when I lived on only one tonne of CO2e and found out that seaweed is both extremely climate-smart and healthy! If you never tried it before, the time is now!
