Edible insects are potentially a sustainable solution to world hunger as they are rich in nutrients and their cultivation far less damaging to the environment than raising livestock for meat. Insectrum allows users to easily raise crickets at home as an alternative source of protein. The device consists of three parts: a main hub in the middle for breeding and processing live crickets into a form of food, and two hubs on either side for incubation. This design allows users to manage the entire lifecycle of the insect from one generation to the next. Insectrum is designed to be placed on a countertop just like any other kitchen device.
Insectrum stimulates us to reflect on the future of food. The concept is developed to a very high level and the product design is sleek, elegant and efficient.
