JURY STATEMENT

Good design moves - selected by Ronald Ihrig As it was impossible to reduce emissions in the traditional Porsche air-cooled 6-cylinder engine, the 1996 new water-cooled engine generation also introduced new proportions to the 911 range. Like their predecessor, internally referred to as 993 the Targas did not feature the typical safety bar behind the doors which characterized the earlier and since 2014 again the present models. In the 993 and in its 996 successor shown here, the Targa was defined by a three-panel glass roof, the center panel of which could be electrically retracted below the rear window, resulting in a unique light-flooded passenger compartment, even if the roof is closed. The 996 model shown here was the first where the rear window would open upwards, allowing the user to conveniently load the space behind the seats.
