Gamified medical therapy UI

UMAY is a gamified user interface for exercise-based dysphagia therapy (swallowing difficulties). Dysphagia is expected to become a global health issue, with forecasts predicting that 37.3% of adults over 65 will suffer from this condition by 2050. Existing gamified solutions provide scenarios that conflict with the natural mapping of swallowing. We have identified and addressed these conflicts to create a more well-matched experience with better usability. Therapists struggle to effectively facilitate rehabilitation hindered by patients’ poor cooperation and lack of motivation. This therapy has been designed to make rehab training more enjoyable through its use of game elements in the design.
